About Beacon Fell Country Park

The Beacon Fell Country Park consists of 110 hectares (271 acres) of woodland, moorland and farmland. The Beacon Fell summit is 266 metres (873 feet) above sea level and offers spectacular views of the Forest of Bowland and Morecambe Bay. On a clear day it is even possible to see the Isle of Man. There is an abundance of wildlife for those who are prepared to be observant. Rabbits and hares are frequent and are easily spotted. Roe deer are a little more elusive, but patience may well be rewarded! Stoats and weasels can be seen running across the road or clambering over the dry stone walls. As many as 11 species of dragonflies and damselflies may be seen around the ponds during the summer months. GREEN STATEMENT: 'The Bowland Visitor Centre at Beacon Fell Country Park has been awarded a prestigious gold standard award by the Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS). We were commended on the quality of our information for visitors, aimed at encouraging children to explore and learn about the natural environment first hand. We also have excellent recycling facilities and a reed bed system for treating the waste water generated by many of our 250,000 visitors a year using the toilets! Most people would expect a centre like ours to already be green, but going through the process, and receiving the award has been very beneficial. It is a reward for the efforts of our staff, and has identified several areas where we can improve even further!
