We’re blessed with so many incredible things to do across Lancashire, but the newly expanded Woodland Spa in Burnley is the jewel in the East Lancashire crown. Part of Crow Wood Resort, the Woodland Spa has recently undergone a £16 million expansion.
On arrival we were impressed by the scale of the dedicated reception area and changing rooms, and we were shown to our lockers and made a bee line for the roof top infinity pools and climbed straight in.
There’s always something indulgent about being in hot tub on a weekday, and the peaceful roof top provides an excellent vantage point across to the viaduct and mill chimneys of Burnley, a timely reminder that we are in East Lancashire and not the Middle East!
They have thought about the use of space so well, and the rooftop provides an additional cocktail & pizza bar (with retractable roof), firepit and sun loungers.
The showstopper though has to be the new indoor vitality pool, complete with 4 hot tubs, and rainfall experience. This had everything from massage jets to soothe aching muscles and bubbles to calm the mind. I could feel the stress melting away. This area is nestled between heated beds for relaxing, and roman foot baths, saunarium and the multi-sensory ice lounge with ice fountain, based on the old Finnish idea of rolling in the snow after taking a sauna.
What is super impressive though, is that all of this is in addition to the amazing facilities they already had at Woodland Spa, so back down the corridor is the hydrotherapy pool, more Roman footbaths, infinity spa pools, firepits, outdoor swimming pool, steam room and my personal favourite, the Serenity Pool, a warm, low-lit relaxation room with high temperature pool.
We made another pit stop at the Indoor firepits for a cocktail and some snacks before heading back to Crow Wood Hotel to get changed for dinner in the resorts’ 2 Rosette restaurant, Bertrams.
