MJs hosts first Hot Shots Event - Young Chef Andrew Armstrong

Andrew Armstong - Young Chef at MJs, Darwen

The first young chefs to take part in one the special events happening across Lancashire, was Andrew Armstrong of the newly built MJs restaurant in Darwen. At only 22 years of age Andrew has a strong pedigree work history behind him having enjoyed working at Northcote Offsite and Gleneagles Hotel before joining MJs only five months ago.

A local lad, Andrew trained at Accrington and Rossendale College where he was voted college student of the year for 2 years running. He was also a finalist in the North West Student of the Year Award 2004 organised by North West Fine Foods.

MJsAs well as gaining his NVQ Level 3, Andrew also holds both his food hygiene and health and safety certificates. All of this from someone who developed his passion for cooking at an early age whilst experimenting on his family. Outside of catering Andrews' other passion is keeping fit and he will often be found at his local gym pumping the iron!

Andrew cites Gary Rhodes as his favourite celebrity chef because of his passion for British produce and innovative style, both of which are evident in Andrews' choice of menu which was served that evening.
