Chris Bell is a young chef with a glittering culinary pedigree, one that takes in the Gordon Ramsay scholarship, award-winning kitchens in Belfast, Dubai and London, and most recently the Head Chef post at Paul Heathcote's Longridge Restaurant. Now Chris and partner Kath (formerly GM at Longridge) have struck out on their own, taking over Ribchester's 300-year-old White Bull pub. The pair have a very clear vision of what they want to offer -- traditional and hearty British fare that's simple and affordable and served in friendly pub surroundings. Expect dishes like Haggis, neeps and tatties, Fish, chips and mushy peas, Irish stew with a selection of pickles and Fish pie with Lancashire cheese mash and herb salad. There is also a choice of daily specials that are displayed on a blackboard in the dining room. The White Bull has already made it into the Good Food Guide and the Michelin pub guide. If you've ever wondered how an award-winning chef would handle down-to-earth traditional British food, head to Ribchester and find out. (info from sugarvine.com)
The White Bull features in Michelin's Good Pub Food Guide 2007. And also received a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide in 2008. The Bib symbols indicate the Michelin Guide's inspectors’ favourite establishments, offering high-quality products and services and good value for the money.
