Contemporary practice with Jamie Holman

Saturday Session # 11

In collaboration with Atlantic Contemporary Art.  Part of the Saturday Sessions series.

Jamie Holman is Lancashire's commissioned artist for the Queens Platinum Jubilee, is formerly artist in residence for The British Textile Biennial and is a director of The National Festival of Making.  Jamie has works in major museum collections including Manchester City Art Gallery and The National Government Art Collection.  Jamie’s practice interrogates heritage and local history through a contemporary lens, producing works for public, gallery, print and digital spaces.

In this workshop Jamie will present The Worlds first western – a film by Edwardian film makers Mitchell and Kenyon, discussing the impact of our industrial heritage on contemporary art and culture.  This will be followed by a ‘contemporary heritage’ workshop where Jamie will demonstrate how he collages heritage images to propose new art works.  Attendees will be encouraged to produce their own piece to take home.
