Chris was born and raised in Lancashire, where he trained to be a chef. Chris's career has since seen him work at several prestigious restaurants and hotels around the UK and complete stages at establishments as illustrious as Claridge's and Heston Blumenthal's The Fat Duck.
In 2015 Chris returned to Lancashire, to work at The Cartford Inn where he is now Head Chef.
The Cartford Inn, noted for its individuality and contemporary rural-chic style, boasts 15 luxury bedrooms and features in the Michelin Pub Guide as an inspectors’ favourite; one of only three in the region. It also lists in the AA and Good Food Guides and was recently awarded an AA rosette. The inn was nominated for a Catey in 2014 and won ‘Best Inn’ at The Great British Pub Awards 2016.”
Chris quickly made his mark on the menu of the already highly regarded country inn as he brought his enthusiasm for a variety of underused techniques, including curing, home-smoking and preserving.
He is passionate about seafood, which the inn has a reputation for serving, and enjoys foraging (notably for wild mushrooms) to give dishes authentic terroir.
In 2018 The Cartford Inn entered the Top 50 Gastropubs, a national list voted for by top foodies and hospitality experts, at a very respectable number 40 and maintained this position in 2019.
Chris Bury has since been named a Taste Lancashire Ambassador, in recognition of his culinary excellence and support of the county's Taste Lancashire activities, that champion Lancashire food and drink nationally and internationally.
