Our three stylish modern cottages are converted farm buildings, situated in rural West Lancashire. They offer comfortable, self-catering accommodation, away from it all but within easy reach of many attractions.
These fully-equipped properties are central heated with warm, solid wood floors throughout. The bedroom has a king sized bed, which can be converted into two singles. Each cottage has a wet room, an open plan kitchen with electric hob, microwave, fridge, and a sitting and dining room in which there is a comfortable bed settee for two extra visitors. French windows lead to a private decked area and lawn with garden furniture. Bed linen, towels, electricity and heating are included in the price. Freeview satellite TV, DVD player and wi-fi internet are included too.
All our cottages are suitable for disabled visitors and have secure private parking. There is a laundry room with automatic washer, dryer and ironing facilities. There is also extra freezer space and wet boots etc may be dried there.
Each cottage has it's own patio and garden. There is also a large safe garden where children can play games.
Liverpool is less than 30 minutes’ drive away and there is a regular bus service, so we are ideally placed for attractions including the Albert Dock and Maritime Museum, football fixtures at Liverpool and Everton and the famous Grand National. Anthony Gormley’s ‘Another Place’ on Crosby Beach is well worth a visit. The Tudor splendour of Speke Hall and Rufford Old Hall, both owned by the National Trust, is also not to be missed. The charming Victorian seaside town of Southport is 20 minutes’ drive away.
There you’ll find old shopping arcades, antique shops, second hand bookshops, good restaurants and great fish and chips. Again, there is a bus service if you don’t want to take the car. And don’t forget Southport’s internationally famous annual Flower Show and Air Show.
We are within easy reach of Formby’s long, sandy beaches, the National Trust’s red squirrel reserve and Ainsdale with its sand dunes.
This coast is home to many fine golf courses, the most famous of which is Royal Birkdale. Anglers can enjoy fine fishing on the Leeds-Liverpool canal just across the road, or in one of five excellent custom-stocked fishing lakes which are within easy reach.
There is bird-watching at nearby Marshside, Mere Sands Woods and the ecologically important Martin Mere, where rare Hooper swans spend the winter. You can watch the wildfowl on the estuary from one of the many hides.
Close by is the ancient market town of Ormskirk, and the picturesque villages of Parbold, Rufford and Mawdsley are worth exploring.
Cyclists and walkers can enjoy the towpath of the Leeds-Liverpool canal. Also nearby are the Cheshire Lines, a cycle track and footpath created from the old Liverpool-to-Southport railway line, and the Trans-Pennine Trail runs from Southport to Hornsea. Bring your ordnance survey map if you want to explore the many footpaths and by-ways in this charming locality.
If you love eating out, there are several dining places all within easy reach including the Scarisbrick Arms, owners Linda and Stan will be delighted to direct you to the right place for dinner.
Those staying and wishing to visit Martin Mere can save 15% on ticket prices, please ask Linda and Stan for further details.
