335 reviewsWelcome to Lancashire’s first community owned freehouse. The Dog Inn is at the heart of Belthorn village, which is one of the highest in Lancashire, rising to 300m above sea level. This gives a unique and stunning countryside view: on a clear day the pub is a great vantage point from which you can see three great Lancashire towers; Darwen’s Jubilee Tower, Hoghton Tower and, in the distance, Blackpool Tower.
The Dog Inn is fortunate to be on a myriad of public footpaths, which criss-cross through surrounding countryside and the nearby moorlands, and well-behaved dogs are welcome in the bar and coffee shop areas. The pub and restaurant are both recently refurbished and offer a range of real ales from local breweries, including Three B’s brewery in Tockholes, Blackedge brewery in Horwich and Reedley Hallows brewery in Burnley. Lagers, beers and ciders are on sale, as well as wines and a wide selection of gins and whiskys. The coffee shop serves fresh coffees and specialty teas, alongside cakes, biscuits, sweets and ice-creams.
The restaurant is suitable for both formal and casual dining, offering a variety of dishes, all home cooked using fantastic locally sourced ingredients. Free WiFi and device charging points are available for all customers and two electric vehicle charge points on the car park at the rear of the pub are available for customers to use during their visit.
A number of regular events are hosted, including craft and chat sessions, every Thursday afternoon, from 14:00, in the coffee shop. If you don’t do any crafts, you are still more than welcome to go along for a chat. Every Wednesday evening the bridge club meet in the bar (all standards of player welcome) and Thursday evenings the extremely popular quiz night takes place. Bingo and live music nights also take place.
