Grateful Fred's: Americana & Roots Music

Grateful Fred's have been pioneering Americana and Roots music in Formby, Southport and Liverpool since 2010 and during that time have presented some of the best US, Canadian and world artists.

On the first Wednesday of every month, join the Fredhead's at The Atkinson for a wonderful night of live acoustic music.

The club night:
19:30 The Wanderers.
20:00 Rob Jones and Rob White.
20:40 interval.
21:00 Carter Sampson Band.

Carter Sampson Band.  Oklahoma is a hotbed of good music, and no one knows that better than the self-crowned Queen of Oklahoma Carter Sampson.  Born and raised in the central state, Sampson writes relatable and honest songs about family, love, life and historical characters.  She's released six albums with her two latest records being released on the influential Horton record label.  Her last album, Gold, spent many months on the Americana music charts.  She tours internationally, and has had much success playing regularly in Europe and the UK.  Carter won first place in the Chris Austin Songwriting contest at Merlefest, NC, and has performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Rocky Mountain Folks Fest and the Lincoln Center in NYC as a top finalist in their respective songwriting contests.  Carter is recording her first solo live album at The Blue Door listening room in Oklahoma City this November.  The album will be her seventh, and will be released in January 2025, two months before her UK tour starts.
'Sampson's high-quality songwriting and gorgeous vocals show she can now be talked about as being one of the very best around. If Wilder Side sowed the seeds, her tremendous new album Gold brings that talent into full bloom', Americanarootsuk.com.
'Sampson sings from the heart.  Nothing is sugar coated.  She's as real as her red dirt roots or the red cowboy boots that she proudly wears', Country Standard Time.
'Sampson deserves all the success that will continue to come her way', No Depression.

Supporting Carter will be Rob Jones and Rob White.  Born and based in Liverpool, England, Rob Jones (vocal/acoustic guitar) and Rob White (vocal) have been harmonising since meeting at school, well, with a few days off to watch football.  When not watching football, Rob and Rob have played a lot of gigs, recorded a few songs and squeezed in the odd radio broadcast.  Rob Jones' songs attempt to deal with the ups and downs of life, public transport, heartbreak and the Mersey, sometimes all in the same song.

Opening the evening will be The Wanderers.  Colin, (Grateful Fred) and his two Silver Fred bandmates, Pete Rimmer and Chris Nelson comprise The Wanderers.  The trio have performed throughout the North West and Merseyside at theatres, festivals, cafes, folk clubs and bars.  In fact, anywhere they are asked to perform.  With Pete on guitar, Chris on fiddle and mandolin and Colin on bass they perform an acoustic mix of Americana, originals, folk, blues and old-timey songs and fiddle tunes.  You can find out more about them, their music and where you can see them next on their website.
