1070 reviewsThere’s a fantastic day ahead of you at Martin Mere Wetland Centre. Enjoy a range of activities to get your creativity flowing, grab a paddle and take to the water in the canoe safari, and take a break in a Mere Side Café.
What’s on this May half term:
Drawn to Water: Quentin Blake at WWT: Reimagine the wonder of wetlands and nature through the eyes of the UK’s best-loved illustrator. Collect an illustrated guide full of Quentin Blake's drawings and discover the seasonal highlights as you journey around the wonderful wetlands.
Chalk pavement painting: Take your creativity outdoors with our chalk pavement paintings (weather dependant).
The Wild Draw: Head to the exhibition hall and take part in the big drawings.
Nature Up Close: Get a more detailed and closer look at nature with our Nature Up Close exhibition. See magnified images from Mary Keenan, look at patterns in nature and draw your own nature drawings whilst you explore the grounds.
Children’s art workshops: Learn how to draw popular characters from award winning illustrator Emma Reynold’s book ‘Amara and the Bats’ and create nature bookmarks to take home. Pre booking required. £10.00 per child.
Amara and the Bats storytime: Join Emma Reynolds on 1 - 3 June at 13:15 for a book reading.
Moth Trapping: Head towards the Discovery Hide at 10:30 to see which beautiful moths have flown into the moth trap.
Egg to duckling experience: From 11:00 – 15:00, take a look at the different stages of eggs in the x-ray machine.
Pond Dipping: From 13:30 - 15:00, head to the Pond Zone to discover exciting wildlife.
Craft room: A range of arts and crafts will be available from 13:00 – 16:00.

Follow A59 towards Preston. Through Burscough Village turn left immediately after the railway bridge onto Red Cat Lane. Follow for one mile, Martin Mere is on left.
Nearest railway station is Burscough Bridge station. Martin Mere is 1.5 miles from station. Signposted walk, approximately 30 mins, or can get taxi from Burscough Village. Cyclists are always welcome at Martin Mere.
The centre is signposted from Junction 8, M61, Junction 3 on M58 and Junction 27 on M6.
