Explore the Victorian kitchen of Gawthorpe Hall, the heart of the home, where the housekeeper is in charge.
Discover Gawthorpe Hall's basement kitchen and meet the housekeeper. She can tell you what sort of food the family might have eaten, how it would have been prepared and what was cooked when King George V came to visit. Discover the Victorian's love of time-saving kitchen gadgets, smell the spices and herbs that scent the air and have a go at crushing some in the pestle and mortar.
You can take away a Victorian recipe to try at home.
