Did you know that some moths only live for one day and never actually eat? When you see a caterpillar it is far more likely to be a moth caterpillar rather than a butterfly caterpillar.
Moth traps allow Martin Mere to record the species, currently at 315 moths, as well as giving you an opportunity to get up close to these amazing creatures and to take fantastic photos. To record the species, a light trap set up overnight. The moths are attracted to the light, go down the funnel, and hide amongst the egg boxes. Then in the morning, you can see what is caught before letting the moths go.
