Russell Maliphant Dance Company: VORTEX

The internationally renowned choreographer, Russell Maliphant brings VORTEX to Lancaster with a beautiful reinterpretation of the art and process of abstract painter, Jackson Pollock.

While Pollock's paintings gave the impression of spontaneity, there was a ritualistic method to his process, with his techniques repeated throughout his career.  The 20th Century American painter was famed for his 'drip paintings'.  Maliphant paints his own interpretation with movement, light, and shadow to create a visually rich journey, with the exceptional dancers of Russell Maliphant Dance Company.

Lancaster Arts is honoured to welcome back the Russell Maliphant Dance Company for the first time since 2019, with a two-night run of VORTEX. Since its inception, the company has received two Olivier awards, three South Bank Show awards and four Critics' Circle National Dance awards for best modern choreography.

'Russell Maliphant is Britain's leading modern dance creator'.  Jeffery Taylor, Daily Express

Duration: 90 mins, including interval
