It’s one of South Lakeland’s treasures, a historic family home filled with exquisitely crafted furniture, but soon this summer, Leighton Hall will be reverberating to the rumble of carburettors, not carpenters’ tools!

On Sunday July 1st the historic house plays host to the 19th Leighton ‘Classic Car and Bike Show’, and proudly for the area, it’s one of the largest on the classic car summer show circuit, with over 500 exhibitors expected to fill the park and thrill the crowds.

Providing the perfect backdrop, the beautiful fell-backed terrace and parkland will be full of well-polished classic cars including MGs, Austin 7’s and Triumphs, as well as motorcycles, vans, trucks, 4x4s, military transport, and beautifully restored commercial vehicles.

There’ll be trade stands and auto-jumble for the auto enthusiast in the family, while the more ‘backseat driver’ can sit back and enjoy full arena displays and commentary- with refreshments, of course.  Photo-opportunities and chatting with other enthusiasts are popular at these friendly events, as is bringing your own classic if you have one to exhibit.

Home to the famous furniture-making Gillow family, the hall’s many attractions make it a fun-packed day out for the whole family.   Leighton Hall is famous for its priceless furniture and visitors are welcome to explore inside, with house tours running from 1pm, for a small charge.   There is also plenty to keep mini-visitors motoring with a children’s playground, caterpillar maze, woodland walk and tree face trail. The charming tearoom is perfect for a vintage relaxing pit-stop and refuel.

Located 10 minutes’ drive from junction 35 of the M6, and well-signposted, the show runs from 10am-4pm.  At just £7 per adult and £2.50 for children, entrance includes admission to the grounds, gardens and parkland.  Well-behaved dogs are also welcome in the park, so pop Rover in the rover and ‘fetch’ him along, too!

Suzie Reynolds, Owner of the Hall said “Mark Woodward’s shows are always well supported by exhibitors and visitors alike and we always look forward to welcoming him to Leighton. Make sure you bring your camera, as there’s nothing quite like the sight of all the beautiful cars parading through the parkland”.

This is one of 2 motoring events in Leighton’s calendar this year. The Leighton Hall Motorcycle Hill Climb takes place on Sunday 23rd September. See www.leightonhall.co.uk for details.
