The week between all the excitement of Christmas and the sparkle of the New Year can sometimes feel a little lack lustre, especially when you’re on your third day of turkey, but have no fear! Lancashire has plenty to explore over the twixmas gap to keep the boredom away.
If getting outside is your thing, we have a great selection of Lancashire walks for you to enjoy, including some festive favourites that we’ve picked out that we know families will love.
Alternatively Lancashire offers lots to do for the family over the festive break, even things you may not have considered, check out a selection below.
Enjoy some friendly competition at The Flower Bowl
Home to the North of England’s only curling rink, the Flower Bowl offers so much under one roof. You can enjoy a game of crazy golf, crazy pool, bowling, shuffle boarding and even catch a movie on the cinema screen. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, you can choose from four places to eat and drink too! What more could you want from your day out?
Roll up to the Panto
You’ll find pantos around the entire county, from Robin Hood to Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty to Aladdin, there’s bound to be one that tickles your fancy. Many people associate the run up to Christmas with pantomimes, but if you didn’t get chance to go to the show ahead of the big day, it’s not too late! You can catch a show at Blackpool Grand Theatre, The Dukes Lancaster, The Atkinson in Southport, King George’s Hall in Blackburn, Empire Theatre Blackburn and the Lancaster Grand Theatre.
Hit the slopes in Rossendale
Try something a little different with your time this twixmas and hit the slopes without even leaving the country! The Hill at Rossendale is the UK’s premier outdoor ski and snowboarding centre and offers personal, professional coaching for all. There are classes to suit all ages and skill sets, with friendly coaches to show you the ropes.
If skiing isn’t your thing but you fancy hitting the ice, a number of the temporary ice rinks in Lancashire are open throughout the twixmas period including Lancaster on Ice, Chorley Winter Wonderland and Blackpool by the Sea. You can also spend time at Planet Ice in Blackburn too.
Enjoy a magical game of golf
Adventure golf is fun for all the family, and there are plenty of courses across Lancashire for you to enjoy. If you have a Harry Potter fan in your midst, The Hole in Wand Wizard Golf is the one for you. Putt your way through a forest of venomous snakes, an ancient castle and a magical railway station, then discover if you have the magical powers of serpent, basilisk, unicorn or wizard before accepting a magical potion to take home. Its adventure golf like no other!
Enjoy a piece of history
Lancashire is known for its incredible history, and we have the attractions to prove it. Spend some time this Twixmas at the beautiful Samlesbury Hall near Preston where you can learn more about the past and enjoy a delicious bite to eat. Or take a stroll around Clitheroe Castle Museum, viewing their galleries, hunt for woodland animals and enjoy their seasonal activities making a new year badge or animal keyring. The Whitaker in Rawtenstall has a number of fantastic historical exhibitions and art to view, and what’s more it’s location in Whitaker Park and gardens make it a perfect day out too.
There’s so much to see and do in Lancashire, so be sure to also check out our what’s on pages to find information about specific events happening over the twixmas break.
