Garstang Walking Festival is back for 2023 and tickets are on sale now.

Taking place from 5 to 14 May, the festival is coordinated by a brilliant volunteer group, the Friends of Garstang Walking Festival, and is supported by Wyre Council. This year there’ll be over 40 walks for all ages and abilities. It’s the perfect chance to experience the best of springtime in the countryside.

As this year’s walking festival coincides with the coronation of His Majesty The King, Wyre Council is introducing a brand new coronation walk on Monday 8 May. Taking place at 2pm from Chesestanc Square, this will be one event you don’t want to miss! During the two mile walk, you’ll come across live music and entertainment and have the chance to take part in an interactive trail. Suitable for the whole family, including your four-legged friends.

To showcase the festival and help people find out more about walking in the area, Wyre Council is hosting a new taster event, Walk this Way, in Cherestanc Square on Saturday 15 April from 11am-4pm.

Meet the fantastic walk leaders and volunteers who will be on hand to answer all your questions about the festival, including what’s on and how to book.

There will be three free guided taster walks to get you in the mood, all starting and finishing at Cherestanc Square:

  • Garstang and the Lancaster Canal – 11.30am – 12.30pm
  • The Millennium Green Walk and Tramper Trek – 1.30pm – 2.30pm
  • Garstang and the River Wyre – 2.30pm – 3.30pm

The council will be joined on the day by other exhibitors including Wyre Rivers Trust, an environmental organisation who will be leading some exciting activities on the day.

There will also be activities for children to take part in, an art exhibition at Garstang Library and don’t miss the larger-than-life musical sheep!

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Community Engagement at Wyre Council comments,

“Garstang Walking Festival has taken place annually for nearly 20 years and is still going strong thanks to the hard work of the Friends of Garstang Walking Festival, the volunteers, the walk leaders and the staff who put such a fantastic event together.

“Walk This Way is a great chance for people to find out all about this year’s festival and celebrate Wyre’s fantastic countryside.

“The coronation walk will be a lovely way for the people of Wyre to come together and celebrate the commencement of our new monarch’s reign.”
