Seriously squelchy fun: Martin Mere announces mud-filled festival of events for February half-term

WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre, Lancashire, has announced its brand new Mudfest event filled with mudtastic activities to get stuck into this February half term.

As part of Mudfest, the centre will also be returning with their popular North West Puddle Jumping Championships as they search for the most creative splashes!

Taking place from Saturday 10 to Sunday 18 February, Mudfest will encourage big and little kids (and adults!) alike to get outdoors and enjoy messy play.    

Activities will include:

• Climb, jump, and crawl through the mud obstacle course
• Cook up some delicious muddy meals in the mud kitchen
• Create mud sculptures
• Get crafty making seed bombs, making a worm, and clay modelling
• See 6,000 year old bog oak and inspect mud pats as part of the Mud Show (Monday – Friday)
• Daily puddle jumping competitions with prizes up for grabs

Nick Brooks, Centre Manager, commented: “Mudfest promises to be a one-of-a-kind opportunity for families to spend an exciting day together and discover the powers of mud. It’ll be a day out you’ll all remember, long after you’ve washed off the wellies!”

Mudfest-goers might be surprised to learn that there’s much more to mud than meets the eye. As well as providing the perfect playground for some seriously squelchy fun, mud is teeming with life like bugs and molluscs - all of which make the perfect meal for a whole host of wetland birds, amphibians and mammals.

Ready to get muddy? Grab your wellies and your sense of adventure, and head to Martin Mere from 10-18 February.

Mudfest is included in normal admission, with members and under 4s going free. Some crafts and puddle jumping are additional costs.
