Barton Grange Garden Centre in Preston is celebrating one of spring’s earliest flowers with a dedicated Primrose Festival taking place from Saturday 1st February to Sunday 2nd March 2025.

A dazzling array of primrose varieties will be on display in the award-winning centre, as well as a choice of flower-filled containers and baskets. Visitors are being asked to vote for their favourite primrose to be entered into a draw to win a gardening hamper worth £100.

Plant Area Manager Will Clark says: ““Our greenhouse is looking blooming marvellous right now, filled with a stunning selection of the beautiful primula family. We’re proud that they are all grown at our own nursery just down the road.

“As one of the first plants to flower in the spring, and capable of surviving the worst of Britain’s winters, these hardy perennials hold a special place in every gardener’s heart.”

The sight of primroses in the garden in spring makes the spirits soar after a long cold winter. Thanks to their distinctive fragrance and range of vibrant colours they are a welcome addition to any green space. They are also a good source of nectar for butterflies, bees and moths and look great in borders, containers or hanging baskets.

The Primrose Festival is all about showcasing the charm and versatility of these beloved spring bloomers. Known for their cheerful colours and ability to brighten even the dullest corners, primroses and primulas are a real star of the plant world.
