Think of pies, and many people will think of Lancashire.
You can pick up a pie in almost any town at the local butchers, grocery shops and bakeries, but for something extra special this British Pie Week, head along to one of the many restaurants, pubs and cafés across Lancashire that offer this staple.
Whether you are looking for a traditional pie; a fish pie, which some will argue isn’t a pie at all; or a posh pie you can find it here. Take a look at some of the fabulous venues offering pies on their menus, or with special menus to celebrate the week.
The Cartford Inn, Little Eccleston
The AA's Inn of the Year 2024 winner, The Cartford Inn, is celebrating in style with a whole specials' menu dedicated to pies from Wednesday 5th March to Saturday 8th March! There will be a meat, fish and even a sweet pie option to choose from across the four days. They include Lamb Shank Pie served with creamy mashed potato, a Lobster Pie which is creamy lobster bisque, salmon, and cod topped with cheesy mash, and a Banoffee Pie Verine of rum-flambéed banana and caramel.
The Fence Gate, Fence
Did you know that the record for the most expensive meat pie in the world is held by an Inn in Lancashire? The Fence Gate's former head chef of the Fence Gate Inn Spencer Burge created a pie recipe using Japanese Wagyu Beef, Chinese Matsutake Mushrooms, Winter Black Truffles and French Bluefoot Mushrooms back in 2005 which cost a mouth opening £8,195.
Visitors in 2025 will be happy to know that the standard menu features a much more reasonably priced Steak, Ale & Mushroom Pie with a short crust pastry top, served with savoy cabbage, smoked pancetta and your choice of hand cut chunky chips or creamy mash which will set you back just £14.50.
Chew's Yard, Preston
One of the new kids on the block, Chew's Yard is a myriad of bars and traders offering great street food and drinks. Trough, a food offering from local producer Goosnargh Gin includes delicious locally sourced food on its menu, including multi award-winning pies from Great North Pie Co. Choose from 14 Hour Braised Beef and Ale, Classic Lancashire Cheese & Onion or Roast Chicken & Ham. Each pie comes served with home-made mushy pea puree & thick gravy.
The Shireburn Arms, Hurst Green
Follow in the footsteps of literary greatness with the Tolkien Trail, and warm up after with a pie from the Shireburn Arms. Choose from a Steak and Bowland Ale Pie with a puff pastry lid, served with chunky chips and mushy peas, or a Lancashire Cheese and Onion Pie served with chunky chips, beans and salad. Alternatively head to its sister inns nearby The Assheton Arms in Downham or the Waddington Arms in Waddington.
Trackside Bar at East Lancashire Railway, Bury

The menu features a range of English favourites including a homemade Cheese and Onion Pie made with Lancashire and parmesan cheese in a shortcrust pastry served with chunky chips and gravy.
