It’s World Theatre Day this Thursday 27 March! This annual celebration was initiated by the International Theatre Institute in 1961 and is observed every year as a global reminder of the importance of theatre as an art form.

This year’s theme is Theatre and a Culture of Peace which highlights the vital role live theatre can play in fostering peace and understanding through the power of storytelling and performance.

What better way to strike a chord for peace, resilience & community than by bringing everyone together to experience a magnificent live musical with a heartfelt message such as the multi-award-winning stage phenomenon Dear Evan Hansen?

Theatre musicals have a wonderfully unique way of telling stories that resonate deeply with audiences. They can take some of life’s biggest challenges and turn them into soaring melodies and unforgettable moments that inspire and help change lives. And when it comes to celebrating storytelling for peace and resilience, few shows hit home quite like Dear Evan Hansen.

This heart-wrenching yet uplifting musical explores the crucially important themes of mental health, belonging and self-acceptance - all through an incredible soundtrack that has brought audiences to tears and cheers worldwide. Its iconic number You Will Be Found has become an anthem of hope, reminding us all that even in the darkest moments, we are never truly alone.

Evan is an anxious high school kid who wants nothing more than to fit in. The thing is, on his way to fitting in, he didn’t tell the whole truth. And now he must give up on a life he never dreamt he’d have. As events spiral and the truth comes out, Evan faces a reckoning with himself and everyone around him…

TV audiences enjoyed a small taste of Dear Evan Hansen’s power on the BBC’s recent Big Night of The Musicals as they were wowed by a cast performance of You Will Be Found. Make Today A Good Day and catch up now on BBC iPlayer at  www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/m001kjm5/big-night-of-musicals-by-the-national-lottery and then book your tickets to experience the live phenomenon for yourself at Blackpool Grand Theatre from Tuesday 20 May to Saturday 24 May before all the tickets Disappear!

Musicals like Dear Evan Hansen don’t just entertain - they spark conversations, build empathy and create lasting connections between people. Theatre has always been more than just entertainment – it’s a space for reflection, dialogue and growth. Through the voices of performers and playwrights, we can all explore the struggles and triumphs that shape our world, encouraging empathy and connection across generations.

This World Theatre Day, The Grand invites theatre lovers to celebrate the musicals that make us laugh, cry and feel seen. Whether it’s the dazzling spectacle of Dear Evan Hansen, the electrifying Grease the Musical; the smash-hit rock ‘n’ roll spec-tacle Buddy - The Buddy Holly Story; the raw energy of The Kinks in Sunny Afternoon; the vivacious stiletto-filled sensation Everybody’s Talking About Jamie or the glorious New York tale of sin and salvation Guys and Dolls, musical theatre continues to be a space to spotlight unity, understanding and hope.
